Assignment 14A: Halfway Reflection

1. Tenaciousness is a competency:
  • Time management was one of the major skills that I have used and definitely improved during the time. It is very important to work for ENT3003 continuously and sustainable otherwise you will have difficulties to fulfill the workload for the week. The tasks you are asked to do are not too hard, but it is useful to be diligent and try to finish your work before the last day of the due date, because sometimes you will need time to think about your task or you will have to interview people for example.
  • For me it was also helpful to be familiar with different questioning techniques for interviewing people. You will receive more detailed and useful information when using those techniques. I was lucky that I have already learned them during my apprenticeship in Germany.
  • Sometimes it was also necessary to be patient. I think everyone has those days where they are not good at writing an assignment because they can’t express themselves the way they want to.
2. Tenaciousness is also about attitude:
  • The first moment I thought about giving up was right at the beginning when we were told to create a “Bug List”. It was really hard for me to think about 20 things that bug me in daily life because normally people are not aware about them. I am quite ambitious that is why I thought that is has to be possible for me and that it would be embarrassing to give up right at the beginning. At least I found the 20 things and I was quite happy about that.
  • After this experience I developed the will to finish the tasks in this course successfully and on time. It is still sometimes a challenge because other course require some work as well, but I like to make things done. I definitely feel like I have developed a tenacious attitude during the past two month by coping with the tasks and sometimes challenges we are required to do.
3. Three tips:
  1. It is important that you not only choose to participate in easy tasks. The ones that are hard for you will help you to support your tenacity.
  2. See the tasks you get as a positive challenge which will help you to improve the own skills
  3. Don’t forget to have fun for example by interviewing different people

  1. Laura,
I thought about dropping this class when I first signed up and opened canvas. I saw all of the assignments and I felt overwhelmed but I'm glad I didn't give up. this class has definitely taught me to be tenacious and to manage my time better. I also agree that having fun is an important part of the class. I enjoy meeting new people or talking to people I don't usually spend time with and I think it helps build connections and social skills.

  2. I totally agree that harder assignments are better for you. Otherwise you are not really learning. The fun part can really be hard - to place yourself in a new and strange position battling fear and knowledge barriers to come up with unique ideas - I mean come on! If it was easy then everyone would be millionaires. This class is certainly about breaking boundaries imposed by yourself, your culture, and your education. Coolest part if you really get it then it will truly count in the real world.

  3. Hi Laura, your feedback really resonated with me, primarily because I think you focused on the learning components of the course. The most basic and obvious one is, of course, that students in this course are learning to build a business. However, you also explained that in order to succeed in this course, especially with assignments requiring interviews, you must sharpen your interviewing skills and, essentially, become a better researcher.
