Assignment 8A: Solving The Problem
My Idea was
to sell heated bicycle seat covers, because people riding the bike during
especially the cold seasons often get ill. Mostly women suffer from getting a
bladder infection, but also men prefer to sit on a warm bicycle seat to reduce
the risk of getting sick. This opportunity exists especially in countries where
riding the bike is quite common and where it is seen as a way to stay sporty
and healthy. Those countries are for example Denmark, The Netherlands, Germany
but as well Israel and even Australia, although the weather normally doesn’t
get as cold as in Europe.
To prevent
riding the bike on a cold bicycle seat or getting ill, I want to invent a bicycle
seat cover that contains a little grain pillow. Before people start riding the bike, they can heat it up in the microwave and pull it afterwards over the
normal bike seat.
It will be very cheap to produce this seat cover. The costs for the materials are low and it won’t be time intensive to seam the cover. Furthermore it is possible to provide different patterns and to take individual customer orders.

Leisure bike rides will likely be many multiples longer than the heat dissipation of a grain pillow. The chemical pack heaters are safe and could be used multiple times on a leg of the journey and packed under the seat out of the elements. The cost is still really low and you retain the stylistic opportunities . The rider could also dial up or down the effect by using multiple packs or completely removing them if the climate changes quickly. For instance a morning ride can be quick cold but within 2 hours the sun is up and the temperature may rise by 20%. A grain pillow may have intrinsic comfort properties but also may lead to discomfort if it is not a solid base to sit on. I would equate it to the difference of a firm bed versus a water bed.

ReplyDeleteI did not even consider the fact that this idea would really benefit women too. This really makes your product extremely versatile and all in all valuable as well. This is me being honest, I think your idea has a legit possibility in being a reality because of the potential for a large amount of utility. The market your selling it to is very large as well increasing the likelihood.
